Project: Oasis

Backstory

Project: Oasis is the pinnacle of years of creation, imagination, and execution. Cal has been crafting experiences for the local community of Fort Worth Texas for years, with a transition into themed attractions a few years ago. Past creations include 4D theaters, Pretzel Dark Rides, Motion Simulators themed to time travel, and even a backyard version of Star Tours with a 1G reverse pneumatic roller coaster launch!

Development

Planning began on November 1st, 2022 (the day after the closing of last year’s “Intergalactic Adventures” attraction). After a general idea was formed for the premise of the ride (minus theming), the design process began with months of focusing on the ride vehicle and control infrastructure. Construction of the ride vehicle began on February 23 (and was completed in late July). The control system was designed around this time and was completed in early August. August->October was spent finalizing the experience, designing/installing AV infrastructure, testing, programming, and troubleshooting.

What Makes Project: Oasis Special

With the design and construction of Project: Oasis, Cal has taken concepts previously confined to the greatest of theme parks into the real world. Its motorized spinning (with speed capabilities twice that of a theme park attraction) combined with its smooth pneumatic motion base and motorized linear drive makes for a thrilling yet comfortable experience. The unlimited flexibility for re-programming, randomized ride profiles, video/audio changes, and even remote monitoring and programming capabilities are one of a kind. Cal was able to develop a technique for “squinching” the custom ride films to the ACTUAL MOTION of the ride vehicle! This is something ONLY seen in theme parks and is something that makes Project: Oasis that much more impressive.

Visual Design

The 2 ride films were completely rendered and animated in-house by Cal, on one computer. They are not only high resolution but feature animation custom-tailored to the ride vehicle motion (including “squinching).

Audio Design

Multichannel audio with dozens of layers contributes to an immersive experience from the moment you step into the queue line to the moment you leave the attraction.

Thematic Design

The Project: Oasis story is completely original with script, graphics, signage, concepts, narration, audio, and video custom-made in-house.
